    I did a cookery course in thailand and learnt to make carrots into flowers for decoration. So probably them, looked impressive but now only have some cheap knives.

    Onions – I like to chop them properly, and I love how a few carefully-placed slits and chops instantly converts to a huge pile of onion snow!! It reminds me of being at catering college, and Chef poking through them to make sure they’re all proper even little dice, not odd shapes!!!

    Tomatoes – a good knife makes cutting them an absolute breeze, but a bad knife (such as I have at the moment!) just mashes the skin and drags the seeds everywhere!

    I like to chop vegetables on a Sunday for a homemade roast, always chopping mushrooms and onions making casseroles, Bolognese and curries etc, I do get a bit teary though, it all gets a bit much lol xxx

    I don’t do the chopping in our house as I’m very accident prone! But Hubby has been coveting a new knife block for a while. He is very good at cooking & is always experimenting with new foods & recipes. His favourite thing to chop are carots which he perfectly batons every time.

    Onions, as I love to imagine myself as some professional chef chopping and dicing away quickly and effortlessly as you see them doing on the TV. When in actuality it’s more a case of: eyes watering from the fumes, nicking my finger nails as I get too close, sending the pieces flying all over the place as I hack wildly and then giving up in frustration and going back to cheese on toast!

Such a powerful performance from the talented cast bringing together individual stories of what it means to seek sanctuary in the North East, the friendships that are forged and the spark of hope that refuses to be snuffed out.
