I seem to be on a bit of a cupcake roll lately, and it looks like people have noticed!
The folks from Tesco Real Food have been in touch to ask me to be one of the judges for their competition to find the best decorator of Christmas cupcakes in the land!
Apart from entries for Newsround competitions, I’ve never been asked to judge anything in my life! So how excited am I to be asked to look at lots of pretty cakes?! Tough gig, but someone’s got to do it!
To get inside the heads of the competitors, Tesco sent me a bumper box of cupcake ingredients and equipment. So I got stuck in and came up with this festive affair.
I had all kinds of crazy ideas about making bright red and green icing, but forgot that food colouring rarely behaves itself so plumped for a more tasteful pale green. I have to say making the snowflakes with the stamper was VERY fiddly, but I managed to get a few half decent shapes.
To achieve this look I used a basic vanilla sponge, vanilla buttercream coloured with run-of-the-mill green food colouring, fondant icing snowflakes and sparkly sprinkles. I piped the frosting using a large star shaped nozzle.
I’ll keep you posted once the competition has been judged and we’ve met the mystery celeb chef! In the meantime you can click the image below to see some of the entries that have come in already – pretty amazing!
Just so you’re aware, the competition has now closed, so I’m afraid Tesco are no longer taking any entries.
