Delia’s braised bangers

May 31, 2010 by Katie Bryson

I’m not always the biggest fan of Delia’s recipes, but sometimes she just gets it right. Today was one of those moments.

Sam’s niggling behaviour at the dinner table vanished this evening. Maybe it was an imposter wolfing down his meal, perhaps it was because his Granny was back from California or just maybe Delia’s braised bangers have some kind of mystical properties.

Sam loves sausages, but I was nervous that the addition of several other ingredients like shallots and thyme would repulse him. He just got stuck straight in! The power of pork products!

You can find the recipe here: http://www.waitrose.com/recipe/Delia’s_Bangers_braised_in_cider.aspx

It says it serves 2-3 people which is a bit of an odd amount. I was cooking for 3 adults and 2 children so I added 5 more sausages, used 500ml of cider and a tablespoon of flour. It turned out just fine and fed everyone comfortably.

I served it with lashings of creamy mash and a trio of greens.

This is the very definition of comfort food. And as the weather is a bit chilly this weekend, it seemed rather fitting.

Just to have one meal without any whinging is pure gold dust. I shall hold onto this moment…

Beautiful little book the audience were all given Beautiful little book the audience were all given at last night’s performance of #Here from @curious.monkey_ at @northern_stage. Such a powerful performance from the talented cast bringing together individual stories of what it means to seek sanctuary in the North East, the friendships that are forged and the spark of hope that refuses to be snuffed out. With the plight of refugees so visible right now, the timing of this performance was impeccable. #RefugeesWelcome #togetherwithrefugees🧡 #StoryCollectors
