Review: Rice Dream and the perfect cup of tea on feedingboys.co.uk

What makes the perfect cup of tea for you? We Brits drink a staggering 60 billion cups a year, but we’re divided over what makes the perfect cuppa. With so many of us opting for a dairy-free diet these days, the dilemma is what to stir into your tea instead.

Matthew’s a big fan of plant-based milks, so we’ve tried them all. From oat to almond, soya to coconut, they’re great for porridge and smoothies, but when it comes to splashing it into your tea, I’ve never been properly convinced as there’s always a bit of a weird after-taste and it tends to curdle. Bleugh!

So it was with trepidation that I stirred some Rice Dream into my afternoon brew. It’d been a busy week with Sam’s birthday, so I was in need of a cuppa, a naughty slice of birthday cake and a sit down.

The rice milk didn’t curdle when I poured it into my tea. Good start! Now to sip it.

I was very pleasantly surprised by the delicate taste of the rice milk combined with tea. The flavours just seemed to make sense together. You definitely get that distinctive rice flavour, but it just blends so well with tea. It’s not as creamy as dairy milk, but as I drink skimmed milk normally this didn’t bother me at all. I made two cups of tea for the photograph, and I drank both of them in quick succession!

RICE DREAM FACTS

Rice milk is allergy free – free from dairy, lactose, soy, gluten, wheat and nut. It has no added sugars and contains only naturally occurring sugars from the rice fermentation.

Rice Dream are launching an on-shelf ‘try me for free’ campaign, offering you the chance to get your money back if you don’t enjoy the taste of it. Hurry though as the promotion will only be available on 120,000 packs. RRP £1.50
