Perk up your bolognese

March 3, 2015 by Katie Bryson

Perk up your bolognese with Birds Eye frozen peas
What quick tricks do you have up your sleeve to get an extra portion of veg into your family’s meals? A handful of frozen peas has long been a favourite of mine, just lobbed in to a pan of bolognese, stir-fry, risotto or pasta, it seems to perk up most dishes.

My boys will eat frozen peas straight from the bag to be honest, something I found disconcerting when they first did it, but as snacks go it’s got to be better than a biscuit!

You can see me stirring Birds Eye frozen peas into a pan of bolognese in my latest advert… sounds simple doesn’t it, but as I stood in a studio stirring a pan of mince for camera someone shouted “Can you stir more convincingly please?!”. Oh dear. I bet Nigella doesn’t get those sort of comments 😉

Are frozen peas one of your staples? What do you stir yours into? I’d love to hear your ideas!

You can find out more about the campaign on the Birds Eye Website

Disclosure: I am working with Birds Eye to promote their Mix Up Your Menu campaign and will be sharing my ads and recipes over the coming months with you here in Feeding Boys.

I’m actually not the biggest fan of peas, but I LOVE sweetcorn, which I tend to use as a replacement, so I’ll definitely be throwing a handful into my next bolognaise 🙂 (also I love the idea that you weren’t stirring convincingly enough haha)

Love sweetcorn… I could eat a whole tin no bother!

How do you stir convincingly? surely as long as things are going round and being incorporated then all is fine.
I stil peas into anything and everything ( along with carrots) and I have a great recipe for a green soup that includes peas.
I use to be with your boys but cant eat raw peas any more as they trigger an asthma attack.
Look forward to seeing more of your Birds eye stuff.

Thanks Elaine… yep I clearly need to put more thought and energy into the way I stir!!! Sorry to hear raw peas affect you like that… what a shame!

Ohhh we love frozen peas here and we eat them straight out the packet as well :-))) Most of the time I will cook then puree them adding a little bit of creme fraiche 🙂 Yummmmm

With the plight of refugees so visible right now, the timing of this performance was impeccable. #RefugeesWelcome #togetherwithrefugees🧡 #StoryCollectors
