We threw Arlo a birthday party at the weekend. You know just a quiet affair. 32 children raging around a very humid parish hall to the sounds of One Direction.
Arlo had planned his party way back in February, and has been telling his classmates all about it for months. “One Direction are coming to my party you know,” he would boast.
“Can we ring One Direction and tell them about my party mummy?” Where’s the chapter in my parenting manual to help answer THAT?!
Anyway after a few gentle but firm conversations about the fact that the 1D boys were perhaps a little busy, we hired a fabulous local entertainer who puts on a disco and does party games, complete with blow up guitars, microphones and pom poms. She worked very very hard!
We kept the food very low maintenance by ordering in a stack of takeaway pizzas, and served it on platters alongside lots of salad and vegetable sticks. It worked out really well and took away the stress of making a gazillion sandwiches and meant the grown ups got something nice to snack on too.
When I asked Arlo what cake he’d like, he’d already scoped out a 1D cake from Tesco. “Really?! Can’t I bake you a nice one?!”
We compromised. I got the shop bought one for doing the whole candle thing, and made a batch of chocolate fudge cupcakes with 1D toppers on for the kids to take home.
The party gear
To put the 1D spin on the decorations, I ordered a load of party gear from Tiger Feet Party, a website i’d not come across before but has a wealth of themed party options, as well as some other really fab gifty and party bag friendly bits too.
We got a banner, napkins, plates, cups, funky straws, balloons, party bags, and a fabulous sparkler candle in the shape of a number 5 which gave a real wow to the final moments of the party. The order arrived really swiftly and was well packaged so nothing was damaged.
The main stress of the party was the 30 minute window either side to get set up and cleared down – what a marathon! You’ll not be surprised to hear that we needed a little sit-down with a jug of Pimms in the garden afterwards while Arlo tested out his new skateboard still high as a kite from cake!
Disclosure: Thanks so much to Tiger Feet Party for providing us with a £50 voucher to spend on their website for the purpose of this review. As usual all views are my own and i’ve chosen to write about this website because they genuinely provided a good service.

Happy Birthday Arlo! Music/pop bands haven’t hit Edward’s radar yet – he’s still into Superhero parties but this looks like lots of fun :-))
