These chicken drummers are simple to prepare, have bags of flavour and can be served up with any number of sides depending on your family’s tastes.
I think they go well with crusty bread to mop up the juices and a big bowl of fresh green salad, but they’d be equally at home with fluffy basmati rice and steamed broccoli. Or you could do my quick roast potatoes in the oven at the same time.
It’s the perfect kind of meal for playdates or laid back weekend entertaining when you just want to put big dishes of food in the middle of the table and let everyone get stuck in.
My boys love the experience of grappling with chicken on the bone, I think it brings out some basic neanderthal instinct in them. Food you can eat with your hands always seems to appeal more to kids.
This is the last dish in the series of Spring meal ideas I’ve just created for Parentdish, so nip over and get the recipe. Cooking up all this meat has got me in the mood for a barbecue, so I need to get myself in the garden with some wire wool and scrub that grill!

My kids would love these flavours and drumsticks are great as they are economical too. These would be lovely as part of a picnic tea. A big dish of roasted potatoes would be lovely to soak up the tasty juices fro the chicken too!

ooh yes roast potatoes on the side is a very good plan Laura!

My little one calls this “chicken on a stick” – great flavours to try x

That’s so cute! I’ve also heard them called chicken lollipops. Love the names kids come up with! (When they’re positive that is, don’t even ask what Sam calls my casserole!)
