Half term was somewhat blighted by illness in the Feeding Boys house, and for two hideous days my throat was so sore I couldn’t swallow proper food. Now that’s just miserable. End of. But to try and get some nutrition into my germ-ridden self I whizzed up some of these breakfast smoothies in the blender.
The combination of frozen fruit, cold milk and sweet bananas is like nectar on a throat that feels like motorbikes have been doing wheel spins on it.
I’m a huge fan of the bags of frozen fruit you get from Sainsburys – it means you can eat summer fruits all year around without running up a lot of food miles and they’re also mega cheap. I keep bags of raspberries, mangoes and mixed summer berries in my freezer for smoothies, home made ice cream or for stirring into muffins.
So if you’re looking for a liquid breakfast idea or have a sore throat that needs soothing, this recipe is for you!
Berry breakfast smoothies
1 banana
1 large handful frozen berries
500ml milk
1 squeeze of clear honey
1. Plonk everything into the blender and blitz until smooth. Pour into glasses and serve immediately.
It doesn’t keep – it starts to look like swamp water if you leave it hanging around – so drink it all up right away!
